La Chiantigiana

This beautiful, spacious farmhouse is set in a wonderful quiet position half way between Florence and Siena in the heart of the Chianti district, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and cypress trees in a landscape modelled by centuries of farmers’ patient toil. The views encompass the Castle of Santa Maria Novella and stretch as far as the towers of San Gimignano across the rolling countryside.

The central structure of La Chiantigiana is a tower of the 11th century; the wings were added later. This typical Tuscan house has been completely restored, taking care to respect its original form. The old structure has been consolidated and, when possible, the original materials re-used. It is now part of a farm of 69 acres, specialised in the production of extra virgin olive oil.

The very spacious house is set on three floors and sleeps up to nine people. Accommodation is comprised on the ground floor of a master bedroom with ensuite bathroom (there are three steps to access this bedroom), small sitting room with TV, large entry hall from which we reach the kitchen down a few steps and a lovely large living-dining room with large Tuscan fireplace. The kitchen has a casual eating area and is fully equipped with stove, oven, open fireplace, dishwasher, fridge/freezer. It opens to an outdoor covered patio ideal for dining, and towards the pool.

On the upper floor is another master bedroom with ensuite bathroom with tub and separate shower, one twin bedroom, one large bathroom with shower, a single bedroom all around a large central hallway-living room with fireplace. Each has a built-in closet and all bedrooms have air-conditioning. The second floor consists of a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with shower.


Furnishings are charming and there are many original antiques. Two loggias, a large garden with lawn furniture and a round swimming pool complete the picture. Washing machine, hi-fi, TV, telephone only for local calls, internet connection, mobile cell phone for long distance calls.

Amenities include dishwasher washing machine, clothes dryer, large refrigerator with freezer and ice maker, air conditioning in the bedrooms, hi-fi, satellite TV, screens on all windows.

Within a few miles one can find relics of every era: Etruscan tombs, Roman ruins, Medieval cities, 14th century castles, Baroque churches. The little village of Fiano is at 1.5 km , Tavarnelle Val di Pesa 5 km, Florence 26 km, Siena 42 km , Pisa 67 km, San Gimignano 22 , Certaldo 10 km. The famous hot water springs of Montecatini are 70 km away.

Please note: Although totally restored La Chiantigiana maintains its ancient structure.
The kitchen, the TV room and the yellow bedroom, although on the ground floor are not on the same level. Guests with walking difficulties have to know that although they can access the yellow bedroom and the kitchen from outside (avoiding the internal steps ), the rest of the floor has short flights of stairs throughout. The access to the last floor bedroom is 20 cm lower than usual so watch your head going up to this bedroom!!

The beds in the twin bedroom cannot be joined: they sit against opposite walls with a doorway in between.

The pool although nicely set, is an above ground pool not suitable for people with weight or height above the average.
