L'ErmitageMONTEVETTOLINIAt a glance
Each year in September, on the second Saturday of the month, the Medieval Feast of Montevettolini takes place. The borgo leaps into the past and creates a surreal atmosphere: the streets are illuminated by torches and decorated with white and red drapes and coats of arms. Cheerful musicians animate squares and alleys, and just around the corner you could find minstrels, charlatans and even sorceresses… The art of falconry will amaze adults as much as children, soldiers will ask you “who are you and where are you going?”, and when it darkens, fire-eaters will lit the night with diabolic flames. Many are the culinary temptations too: grilled meat, tasty soups, mature cheeses, rustic cakes and… a good glass of red wine! L’Ermitage is an historical dwelling dating back to the 15th century. It was carefully restored in 2006 without compromising its original characteristics. Both exteriors and interiors boast traditional materials such as terracotta, Florentine stone and authentic red bricks. The property has been tastefully furnished and embellished with fine tapestry, marvellous accessories and fabrics and it perfectly combines its original characteristics with all modern comforts. The ground floor opens up with a spacious hall. On the left the beautifully decorated dining room with seven extendible tables, fireplace, wood-fired oven and sat TV, where guests can savour an excellent Tuscan meal or enjoy a rich breakfast with typical food. The ample living room is characterized by a marvellous barrel vault ceiling beautified by a majestic chandelier, three large sofas and period furniture. The superb barrel-vaulted games room is just the perfect place for a backgammon match or a fine glass of Chianti. The kitchen is simple but well equipped with a stove with six burners, oven, dishwasher, espresso coffee machine, meat cutter and all the necessary pots, pans and crockery. The sizable pantry room contains two fridges/freezers. At guests’ disposal a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer. Half bath. The second floor consists of a relaxing and elegant lounge with two comfortable sofas, the ideal spot for an agreeable reading, and five ensuite bedrooms. Every room is individually decorated and provided with TV, independent air con, safe and luggage rack. The exquisite imperial suite with high ceiling stands out for its golden colours, its stone wall on one side, and a grandiose king-size bed. The topaz twin bedroom is joined through a corridor to a cosy sitting room, where the two classic sofas can be used as beds as well. The amber, jade and coral double bedrooms are all sophisticated, comfortable, bright and decorated to create a harmonious atmosphere. A few steps upward is the ample superior aquamarine double bedroom with wooden floor, big terrace and ensuite cerulean bathroom. All the bathrooms are beautifully decorated with fine handmade tiles and are all provided with a spacious shower, sink, WC, bidet, hair dryer and alarm bell. Outside, the wonderful loggia and the lovely terrace are ideal corners for a romantic candlelit dinner or a relaxing moment in the Jacuzzi after a long day of sightseeing. Montevettolini is close to the main cities and attractions in Tuscany: Florence (45 km), Lucca (34 km), Pisa (55 km), Vinci (Leonardo da Vinci’s birthplace, 13 km), Collodi (Park of Pinocchio, 20 km), Viareggio (58 km), Pistoia (15 km), Siena (87 km), Volterra (85 km), San Gimignano (103), Le Cinque Terre (Liguria - 122 km), Portofino (Liguria - 170 km) … At only 3 km there is the beautiful 18-hole Golf Club “La Pievaccia” amidst olive groves.
