At a glance
La Torre is part of a XII century palace located in the heart of Mantova, the hidden gem of Italy declared in 2008 a Unesco World Heritage site. It was once home to the Bonacolsi family who ruled the town from 1272 to 1328. The Palace offers today a wonderful, unique accommodation combining ancient grandeur with modern luxuries, with a lovely panoramic terrace in a very quiet location, no car needed. History Over 700 years of history sit at the top of the tower where a unique frescoed room with magnificent panoramas in every direction is located. The Tower is the most exclusive place to stay in Mantova and occupies the top floor of the oldest Palace in town, opposite the legendary Palazzo Ducale . The mansion is the home of the Castiglioni family, descendants of Baldesar Castiglione, politician and scholar of the 16th century, author of "il Cortegiano". Description A careful renovation has restored the Tower to its original splendour. The Suite consists of a magnificent 50 sq. meters (538 sq. feet) room with antique furnishings, impressive XII century frescoed walls, a large canopied bed draped with beautiful fabrics and silks, satellite TV, tea/coffee maker, microwave, internet connection, telephone as standard. A modern bathroom with large shower is situated 10 steps down. Guests enter the Palace through the massive wooden doors and pass along an elegant courtyard where they can park their car. The Tower rises four storeys high, with elevator facility, and is crowned by a terrace offering 360-degree views of the town and its monuments . Mantova has been declared Unesco World Heritage and besides its artistic and historical treasures Mantova excels for its gastronimic traditions and the choice of activities: from boat excursions on the lakes surrounding the town to the cycle tracks connecting the town to lake Garda. This is a region rich in both culture and nature, conveniently located close to Bologna, Venice and Milan. There are many possibilities for excursions, including visits to Verona, Sabbioneta and Lake Garda which are just a 40 minute drive away, or Cremona, the town of the violin makers which is a 1 hour’s drive away. Closest airport is Verona. Personalized excursions and guided tours can be organized on request. Mantova is a great place to cycle-it is fun and so easy to discover its secrets on the seat of a bike!
