Villa BiancaCASTELRAIMONDOAt a glance
This beautiful property is situated on top of a small hill on the border of the old territories of Castelraimondo and Castel Santa Maria, nestling in a landscape characterised by warm colours, gentle hills and beautiful sunsets. Recently renovated into a stunning country house, its unique location in the centre of Italy provides an ideal base from which to make numerous excursions into the Marche and to explore the neighbouring regions of Umbria and Tuscany. The name Villa Bianca derives from the white plaster that characterized its main facades, giving it that shimmering look, typical of central Italian country residences built during the 1500 - 1600 period. The actual construction date of the Villa is uncertain, however its history dates back to the land register of 1573, in which the Casa Bianca (that also gave its name to the locality) is shown as belonging to the Reverend Apostolic Chamber, an ancient organisation that was at the head of all financial, legislative and judiciary administrations of the Papal State. The Vatican owned the property for approximately three centuries until it was purchased by Count Severino Servanzi Collio of San Severino. Passed down through the ages to the descendants of Count Severino the White House remained the same for the entire 20th century. During the 1980s it was sold to the current owners who have carried out an extensive renovation. Inside the house guests can relax in the peacful Sala Raffaello on the second floor, whiling away the hours with a favourite novel or sampling some of the very best traditional dishes typical of the Marche region in the well appointed kitchen. Surrounded by panoramic views the four apartments available for weekly rental have their own kitchen, private bathroom and separate entrance. For extra accommodation two lovely double suites are available and an additional five apartments have been created from the old stable. The swimming pool, a patch of blue in the midst of the mountains, is perfect for enjoying a completely relaxing break “far from the madding crowd”. The villa is the prestigious headquarters of the ‘Accademia della Lingua, dell’Arte e dei Mestieri’ of Castelraimondo.
Just to mention a few examples, there is the famous “vincisgrassi”, made from a sort of home-made dough, cut into wide strips and filled with ragu, chicken entrails, parmesan cheese and béchamel sauce. The “porchetta”, suckling pig stuffed with wild fennel and cooked in the oven. The“coratella”, lamb entrails in strings, typical of the Easter period. The “crescia fogliata”, a sweet made with honey, sultanas and figs. The “scroccafusi”, sweets made with eggs, floor, sugar and milk and dressed with honey and alchermes liqueur.
If you head inland towards the nearby Umbria region, must-see places of interest include Assisi, Gubbio, Città di Castello, Perugia and Norcia. Within one hour’s drive golf lovers can find numerous golf courses, or you can also take a trip to the outlets of important designer brands, and a little further away the factories of some famous designer shoes can be reached.
