CANNERO, Lake Maggiore

At a glance

On the water's edge of Lake Maggiore, just on the outskirts of the charming old-fashioned little village of Cannero (a ferry stop), is an ancient villa set in a luxuriant and extensive fenced garden with an old bamboo thicket. Steps lead from the garden to a small private sandy beach (only accessible during summer months when the level of the lake drops) and private mooring. A little footpath leads from the villa to the village, a five-minute walk away, with all services and shopping. Day trips to Switzerland are possible with Locarno very close by.

Opening to the garden are two living rooms, one of which with fireplace, the dining room and the large kitchen, conveniently close to a large barbecue and outdoor dining area. On this floor is a bathroom with shower. Upstairs are four double bedroom, two of them opening to a balcony with views of the lake, two bathrooms with shower. The setting is wonderful: in the garden bamboos, hydrangeas and evergreens; on the lake front: azaleas, rhododendrons and two 100- years -old camellias, while a jasmine and a wisteria climb up on the facade and around the blue shutters of the villa.

Ground floor
The villa has three floors and all rooms overlook the lake. On the ground floor is a living room with fireplace and TV (no satellite), a sitting room, a dining room and a large, well-equipped family kitchen. The kitchen has a freezer, a refrigerator, and a dishwasher. There is a bathroom on the ground floor with a sink and a shower and a WC.

First floor
There are 21 steps to reach the first floor where all the bedrooms are located. 
On the first floor there are two bedrooms, one with twin beds and one with a  queensize bed. Each bedroom is equipped with a sink. On the same floor there are a bedroom with twin beds that can be made up as one and a queen-sized bedroom, two bathrooms, one with shower a and one with tub and hand held shower.

Top floor
On the top floor there is a laundry room with a washing machine and drying rack.

This spacious house (300 sq mt / 3,240 sf) is furnished in a very charming style with many pieces of antique furniture, antique prints and paintings decorating the walls. It offers a high level of comfort with excellent modern bathrooms. Amenities include freezer, refrigerator, wood stove in the kitchen making a winter stay very cosy, stereo, TV, telephone, washing machine, dishwasher, electric oven. Outdoors is a ping pong table and sports such as sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, trekking, tennis and golf are all close by. Boats can be hired nearby. There is parking for 4 cars.

Interesting excursions to the Borromean Islands, the Brissago Islands, Villa Taranto, Arona, Villa Pallavicino, Lago d?Orta.

Minimum 2-week rental in August.

Note: From the parking area to the gate it is approx 30 meters, then you walk downhill along the garden footpath (with some easy steps) to reach the villa. The accommodation is unsuitable for people with difficulty in walking.
