Les Gites OrbieuLA GRASSEAt a glance
The property is comprised of three gîtes situated in the medieval ramparts of the village. In the Middle Ages, the mansion which houses the gîtes was in fact two separate houses divided by a cobbled lane. These were combined in the 19th century - the cobbled lane was replaced by a grand stairwell and hallway with a vast glass skylight. It is this hallway that separates the Balcon gîte and the Rive gîte (overlooking the river Orbieu) from the Marche' gîte and the games room. One can paddle in the river at the back of the house and wander underneath the 11th century bridge. The pebble beach of the river bank is a peaceful place for children to play and adults to sunbathe. The grassy terrace overlooks the river where one can enjoy a glass of wine under the walnut tree. Reclining chairs and sun beds are stored in the cellar, your access to the beach. There is a BBQ and stone table with benches for outdoor dining. Rive The Rive gîte is on the first floor and has a wonderful view across the river to the Mediterranean hillside opposite. There is a wood burning stove and central heating for winter breaks. The kitchen/living room (16'x20') is well equipped including dishwasher, microwave, oven and gas hob, coffee maker, toaster and good quality kitchen ware. Dining room table to seat 6 to 12. There are two comfortable sofas (one folds out into a bed) a television and radio/cd player.
Balcon has French windows opening onto the balcony, which has great views over the river to the 11th Century Bridge. The well equipped kitchen includes dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, toaster, cafetèire, 5 ring gas hob with extractor fan & good quality kitchen ware. The main bedroom has a kingsize bed and French windows opening onto the balcony. The ensuite bathroom has a tiled walk-in shower and bath. The other bedroom has a double and single bed and ensuite shower and WC.
Marche' Gîte is on the first floor and overlooks the cobbled street and medieval covered market place. It retains its original terra cotta tiles and high ceilings. The sitting room and kitchen have been converted back into one large room where the timbered 17th century ceiling gives a feeling of calm and space. The floor tiles in this room are more recent, late 18th early 19th century and are a colourful example from the period. The kitchen is well equipped and has a gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher, microwave, cafetiere and toaster. The living room has a sofa, chairs and a wide screen TV with Sky (free channels). The main bedroom has a kingsize double bed (160cm x 200cm). The second bedroom has two single beds. The bathroom has a bath with a shower attachment and curtain. The WC is separate. There is a washing machine and hair dryer. The garden and the riverbank are shared with the Rive gîte. This apartment is an ideal base for those wanting to explore this fascinating area or walk locally in the surrounding hills and vines. The gîtes share a common entrance through the games room and are otherwise totally independent. The charming English owners are on hand should you want advice on local walks or restaurants, beaches or visits. All gîtes are equipped with kingsize beds with good quality mattresses, comfortable pillows, cotton bed linen and towels (please bring your own beach towels), hairdryer, iron and ironing board. Board games, videos and books. Cot and highchair available on request. There is free parking in the village and you can unload your luggage outside the house should you be unable to park on the market square.
