Bon Sejour is situated just outside the tiny, medieval village of Chenaud (population approximately 340 people) which lies in a wonderfully quiet little valley on the West side of the Dordogne region. The estate consists of a large house, built during various centuries, a large barn with two French towers and an old well. The grounds cover approximately 6 acres in total and the backyard overlooks the lush and winding Dronne river. Guests enjoy the peace and freedom of spacious lawns, enclosed lake, century old lime trees and bamboo forest. Bon Sejour is available for rent as a whole but also as 3 separated parts: - la Mazilière (8 adults) - la Dronne (4 adults) - la Grange (2 adults) Due to the structure and lay-out of the house a high level of privacy can be guaranteed. The house is available for rent from 2 up to 14 people and is well suited to receive large groups. The third house is privately owned and is occupied by the owners of the estate. The oldest house was built in 1626 (the foundation dating back to 1090!!). The other parts, barn and towers were added in the 18th and 19th century. Bon Sejour was renovated in 2006 and the facilities now reflect the requirements of the 21st century. You can stroll in the relaxing informal garden and enjoy the shadow of the century-old lime trees or sit on the jetty (4x7 mt) on the banks of the river Dronne and say hello to the canoes slowly passing by. The water is crystal clear and you can enjoy a refreshing swim. Fruit trees have been casually placed throughout the garden, the little forest, and the lake at garden’s far end. “La Mazilière ” Sleeps 8 This is the largest part and is in the middle of the property. It has been lovingly restored in an authentic way, providing you comfortable and luxurious accommodations. The beautiful old windows, the traditional old oak floor and the characteristic stairways have remained unchanged. The tasteful interior decoration, combined with beautiful colours and charming sanitary fittings will ensure you have an agreeable stay. Max. 1 child up to 4 years old extra per room is allowed. Wireless Internet Access. Each bedroom in La Mazilière has a safe. First floor (ground floor) The large hall, one of the most beautiful rooms in the house, has a very old tiled floor. This hall allows access to a very large living room (65 m2) and an open plan kitchen equipped with all modern appliances. There is sufficient crockery and beautiful cutlery for the “real” cooks among you. The large open fireplace will deliver comfortable heat and also adds to an agreeable atmosphere. The house is centrally heated. The 90 cm thick walls will guarantee a pleasantly cool interior in the summer. But it also will keep the cold out in the wintertime. In the living is satelliteTV, a DVD- and a CD-player. DVDs are available too. On the first floor is one of the four bedrooms with wash basin and a separate bathroom with shower cubicle, wash basin and a toilet (bathroom). In this large bedroom of 39 m2 there are two single beds (90x210cm!!) that can be used as double beds or as two separate beds. In the separate bathroom are the washing- and drying machine. It also includes the iron and iron-board and vacuum cleaner. In this bedroom we have installed a smoke-detector. Second floor The original antique staircase will lead you to the landing, where you will find the three other bedrooms. All bedrooms have been decorated according to a certain theme (Safari, Red and Gold). Each bedroom (30m2) has its own en-suite, luxurious bathroom with wash basin, shower cubicle and toilet. Two bedrooms have two single beds (200x90cm) which can also be used as a double bed. The third bedroom has a double bed (180x200cm). Each bedroom has its own original oak floor and a open fire. Each bedroom on this floor has a smoke-detector.
“La Dronne” Sleeps 4 This part is situated in the most historic part of the house (foundations dating back to 1090). This house has been restored with authentic materials and is equipped with today’s luxury and comfort in mind. The tasteful decorations, beautiful colours and charming sanitary fittings, will ensure you enjoy an agreeable stay. The house is centrally heated. The safe is located in the hall. First floor The kitchen allows access to a balcony (4x mt). A nice place to enjoy your breakfast in the early morning sun. It also is a beautiful place to enjoy the rustle of the waterfall in the Dronne. Second floor
“La Grange” Sleeps 2 La Grange with its tasteful decoration, beautiful colours and charming sanitary fittings, will ensure of an agreeable stay and is suitable for two adults. First floor (ground floor) This part has a hall, spacious toilet, wardrobe, a living room and open plan (designer) kitchen with all modern appliances (dishwasher, oven, micro-wave, fridge with freezer part, coffee-maker and a Senseo, egg boiler, toaster, fruit press, electric citrus press and some other electrical appliances. In a separate part is the washing- and drying machine. The built-in safe is located here. Folding doors open onto the terrace, looking south towards the 12th century church. The terrace offers you a lot of privacy and sunlight. The first floor has underfloor heating, thus warm enough during wintertime. Second floor La Grange has one large bedroom with a double bed (180x200cm); both beds are electronically adjustable. The bathroom has a luxury sink, shower cubicle and toilet. This bedroom has a flatscreen TV with a satellite receiver and inbuilt DVD-player. There are some DVDs available. This room also has a smoke detector. Wireless Internet Access in all three apartments.
Wine area Bon Sejour is situated in the centre of the largest wine producing area of France: Bordeaux, Bergerac and Cognac. Saint-Emilion is only a 45 minute drive away. Markets On Sunday there is a little market in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (15 km) On Monday there is a market in Chalais (7 km) On Friday a large market in Ribérac (18 km) On Saturday you can visit the little market in St. Aulaye On Sunday there is a very big antique market in Bordeaux (60 km) From May until July, in almost every village are little local markets (“bric à brac” and “vide grenier”) So there is usually one market going on somewhere almost everyday.
